Competition for outstanding academic maritime teaching 2026

The German Maritime Centre once again launches a competition to recognise outstanding academic teaching in the maritime field. Starting now, students on maritime degree programmes are invited to nominate lecturers and professors who demonstrate exceptional commitment to teaching and to their students.
21 July 2026
Nominees should be academic staff who excel at linking research, teaching and practice. They equip their students with subject-specific knowledge, practical skills and academic competencies, preparing them well for professional life. Eligible for nomination are lecturers and professors who regularly offer courses with a maritime focus.

Through this competition, we aim to:

  • strengthen academic maritime teaching in Germany,
  • raise the profile of maritime degree programmes, and
  • recognise outstanding commitment to teaching.

Award ceremony and prizes

The award ceremony will take place at the 20th Bremen Shipping Congress on 17 November 2026 in Bremen. In addition to a certificate, the prize winners will receive financial support for an academic project of their choice, to be used in teaching:
