The German Maritime Centre wishes to announce a competition for outstanding academic maritime teaching. The competition is aimed at students. They are asked to nominate lecturers and professors who provide outstanding academic maritime teaching.

We want to hear from you, the students of academic maritime subjects, about which of your lecturers and professors best succeeds in linking practice with research and teaching. We’re looking for academic maritime teachers who show above-average commitment to their subject and their students. People who teach their students applicable basic knowledge, practical competencies and academic skills and optimally prepare them for entering the workforce. The teachers to be nominated must regularly give a lecture or event on a maritime topic.

We want to use the competition to:

  • Promote academic maritime teaching in Germany
  • Increase the visibility of maritime subjects
  • Support exemplary commitment by teaching staff to teaching and students

The awards ceremony will take place on 27 September 2022 at the 16th Bremen Shipping Conference (Bremer Schifffahrtskongress).

In addition to a certificate, the winners will receive a prize to be used for an academic project that is close to their heart (1st prize: €2,500, 2nd prize: €1,000, 3rd prize: €500).

The nomination period began on 1 April 2022 and ended on 20 May 2022.

A jury will select the winners based on the submitted nomination forms. The members of the jury are representatives of the five northern German states that belong to the Permanent Working Group of the Coastal States on the Maritime Education System (Ständige Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Küstenländer für das Seefahrtbildungswesen/StAK).
